Lau Lukkarila is a choreographer and performer born in Oulu, Finland, today they are based in Vienna. Between 2008–2013 they studied applied theatre, contemporary dance and performance in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Helsinki and Royal School of Performing Arts in Madrid. Lau is interested in dedicated awkwardness and the presence of an emotional body in the act of dancing and performing. 2018 Lau received the Austrian Federal Chancellor’s Office’s START Scholarship for Music and Performing Arts as well as the danceWEB Scholarship at ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival. Their latest works are Trouble at Rakete Festival/Tanzquartier Wien (2019), NYXXX (2020) at imagetanz/brut Wien as well as at 8:tension series at ImPulsTanz Festival (2021), kneading to the 3rd millennia (2021) brut Wien, Lapse (2022) with Luca Bonamore at S_P_I_T Queer Performance Festival and When boyfriend material begins to frey (2022) at Vienna Art Week. 2021–2022 Lau was part of FREISCHWIMMEN theatre and performance production platform and they have published three internet EP’s: Super Like (2019), HUFKLANG (2020) and HEAVYCRUSH (2022).
