BIOGRAPHY

Lau Lukkarila (they/them) is an artist from the Bay of Bothnia in northern Finland. Their performative works delve into the intersections of different disciplines, exploring kitsch, will and wounds under the allures and demands of affect. Lukkarila studied at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki and the Royal School of Performing Arts, Madrid. Their work has been showcased amongst others at Mad House (Helsinki); Austrian Pavilion, Gwangju Biennale 2024 (Gwangju, South Korea); ImPulsTanz Festival (Vienna); Das Weisse Haus (Vienna); Kunstraum Niederösterreich (Vienna); fjk3 Gallery (Vienna); Tanzquartier Wien; brut Wien; Odeon Theater (Vienna); HochX (Munich); LOFFT Theater (Leipzig) and Kutomo (Turku). Their recent works include Hold yr ache 2 my ache (2024) with Zeynab Kirikou Gueye, Lapse and the Scarlet Sun (2023) with Luca Bonamore and kneading to the 3rd millennia (2021). In 2023-2024, Lau was one of the supported artists of the Creative Crossroads - Life Long Burning Creative Europe program of the EU and in 2021-2022, Lau was part of the FREISCHWIMMEN platform for theatre and performance productions. Under the artist name “Schloßhund”, Lau has released three EPs: Super Like (2019), HUFKLANG (2020), and HEAVYCRUSH (2022).
