Aja Addy (GH)Joseph Kpani "AJA" Addy born in 1948 in Accra, Ghana, was a drummer, dancer and Tigari priest. He was descendant of a Tigari priest family and - as his father - became a Tigari priest. Extraordinary abilities as drummer and dancer, as well as the knowledge of the ritual meaning and the healing power of certain herbs and plants, are part of being a Tigari priest. He was known in Ghana as one of the best Tigari dancers.
Aja, a nephew of Mustapha Tettey Addy, started to drum at an early age with his uncle and was member of several ensembles. As a traditional Tigari priest, the Addy-family heritage, his close relationship to his uncle, Aja acquired a lot of knowledge about the various rituals and traditions and gained excellent skills in the many different West African drumming and dance styles, which was proofed in the Solo concerts he used to give.
He died on tour in Japan in 2002.
