Rebecca Patek (US)
The trauma of rape is the subject of New York choreographer Rebecca Patek’s performance. In it, she tells a sad story: the protagonist, a young female dancer, works in a bar. She is raped on her way home and has to deal with the aftermath of this personal catastrophe. She does so in an extraordinary way, confronting the audience with lots of controversial material in the process. Her piece “ineter(a)nal f/ear” is a vivisection of how US American culture deals with trauma, violence and shame. With a good dose of theory, parody, satire and sexually explicit depictions, Patek and her co-performer on stage, Sam Roeck, make the power structures, pathologies and psychological formations in interpersonal relationships visible.
