Flamenco-Body-Percussion

And there is rhythm!

Rhythm and movement are inseparable in Flamenco: the body is a percussion instrument. Sounds, snaps, claps, beats on the body and stomps with bare feet merge into a percussive sound score, which builds the base for movements in space.

In this week-long workshop participants learn techniques, which - of the dance style they are coming from - allow for the creation of their own rhythmic base through short choreographic sequences. Previous experience in Flamenco or special equipment is not necessary.

The movement as form of percussion adds an additional dimension to the dance. The musical component and the rhythm are an instrument, which rather helps to intensify the expression of movements. As Cesc Gelabert, a well-known contemporary dancer from Barcelona once mentioned jealously in relation to Flamenco: "you still have rhythm left to you, in case".
