Sense Appeal

Erotics in Performance
(in public proximity and private distance)

Edie Nightcrawler and Melanie Maar co-guide this research project situated on the continuum between their performance experiences in art and entertainment.

Where is the space that can hold our individual urges for sense-connection, expression, and our love relationship with an audience? What external and internal elements enhance or mute our fullest expression of our enlivened physicality? How do these shift in times of open communing and in times of isolation? In our work we are interested in practising and discussing how ‘turning on’ sensual connection with the animate and inanimate environment creates access to our performative and private selves.

We invite you to transverse your own ideas, intuition and assumptions about sensuality, ritual, high art, low art, desire and repulsion. For that we intend to create a respectful, playful space for collective and individual explorations. We will dive into the relationships between feelingness and formness there. Using methods like Melanie’s relational rest and action practice as guided improvisations, as well as learning Edie’s sensual movement vocabulary with music and props, we come together to re-examine in doing, in being, and in dialoguing our various realities and the clichés swirling around us.

This Field Project is for dancers of all self-identifications and all dance fields.
