„Rising Swan“

The swans have changed. They wear boots, black leather jackets and full visor helmets, for example. A swan may be a strong woman, mincing on (demi) pointe while recounting the ambitious and/or absurd dreams of her life, and which of them have come true and which haven’t. She may sing pop songs that have accompanied her through life so far. Doris Uhlich’s “Rising Swan” is the winged antipode to Anna Pavlova’s “Dying Swan” from 1907. Pavlova was a kind of pop star of her time, and Uhlich has grown up in an entire pop culture. She uses powerful symbols to emphasise that all human beings are part of world events they cannot escape from.

Duration: approx. 55 min.
