"Still Smoking" Alternating feelings and lighting beneath fifteen chandeliers. Six beautiful people dressed in black and playing with dance rituals. Without any haste the small, isolated group wraps itself in over-stretched music, between erotic and a suggestion of high spirits; lasciviousness and post-modern ennui. Four women and two men let themselves be carried away by aerobics, cheer leading and style. The homely uncanniness of a young New York demimonde society which is as lost as it is slightly decadent is the subject of the dark-side dancing performance "Still Smoking" by the Cyprus-born, US choreographer Maria Hassabi. The piece, premiered in April of this year in New York Kitchen, is the third evening length work of the up and coming artist who studied at the California Institute of the Arts.
