"Installation: Islamic Violins" “Islamic Violins” is an installation during which objects are being detonated. Ear and eye protection is available free of charge to members of the audience at the performance venue. Attendance of the performance is at one’s own risk. The organiser expressly excludes liability for any injuries, defects or damages. “All aesthetics are loaded with ideology”, says director and media artist Ibrahim Quraishi. Going far beyond classic social commentary, he treats politically charged topics in his works and reflects the role of technology in society. In the performative installation “Islamic Violins” real explosions (which are embedded in a constantly transforming sound environment by French electronic artist Norscq) are juxtaposed with the echo of the medial flood of images of the countless wasted bodies. Ibrahim Quraishi has shown his works, among others, at the Springdance Festival (Utrecht), at the Biennale in Bonn, at the Japan Foundation (Tokyo), Le Batofar (Paris) and The Kitchen (New York). In addition to his dance education he studied Middle Eastern languages and literature, including under Edward Saïd at Columbia University (New York). 21 July / 12:00 & 24:00 22 July / 12:00 - 12:16 & 24:00 - 00:16 23 July / 12:00 - 12:29 & 24:00 - 00:29 24 July / 12:00 - 12:42 & 24:00 - 00:42 25 July / 12:00 - 12:55 & 24:00 - 00:55 26 July / 12:00 - 13:18 & 24:00 - 01:08
