EXTRAS

In addition to performances, workshops and the Soçial music programme, ImPulsTanz offers a variety of events and opportunities to provide insights into the world of contemporary art: From artist talks and the presentation of new books on dance and performance, including those by Jeroen Peeters (2023), Guy Cools and Alain Platel (2021) and Johannes Odenthal (2019), to exhibitions such as Choy Ka Fai (2015) and Ivo Dimchev (2017). Symposia, talks and discussions, often in conjunction with the workshop and performance programme, are dedicated to burning questions of our time, such as Crisis? What Crisis?! (2017), the Think Tank: Dance and Ecology by Jérôme Bel, the Future Clinic for Critical Care (2019) or the Life Long Burning Choreographic Convention In Other Words: A Future (2022). Our accompanying programme also includes film screenings by Lloyd Newson / DV8 Physical Theatre (2014), Louise Lecavalier (2018), Wim Wenders (2019), Alain Platel & Mirjam Devriendt (2023) and Maguy Marin (2023) as well as music video programmes.

Ko Murobushi, festival companion from 1988 (then still in George Tabori's theatre The Circle) until 2014 in the Akademietheater: in his honour, ten years after the homage that ImPulsTanz dedicated to this exceptional artist at the Odeon in 2015, we are showing deep insights into his work. An exhibition, a revival of Café Shy, which he ‘invented’, and a high-calibre symposium will show how the power of his interpretation of Butoh has an impact today.
We are also looking forward to book presentations by Boris Charmatz and Meg Stuart in the Red Bar of the Volkstheater. In conversation with Viennese choreographer Christine Gaigg and editor Marietta Piekenbrock, we will gain insights into Charmatz's time as artistic director of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch + Terrain Boris Charmatz. Burgtheater dramaturge and co-editor Jeroen Versteele talks to Meg Stuart about her work from 2008 - 2023.
