Since 2001, the ImPulsTanz [8:tension] series has served as a platform to discover a new generation of choreographers from all over the world and their works. Stars such as Akram Khan, Ann Liv Young, Florentina Holzinger, Ligia Lewis, Dana Michel and Olivier Dubois showed their first productions at [8:tension]. The ImPulsTanz – Young Choreographers’ Award (formerly Prix Jardin d’Europe) is presented each year as part of the series.
In 2023, the series will comprise nine productions. The works by choreographers from Australia, Denmark, France, Greece, Austria, Portugal and Hungary, among others, can be seen at the Kasino am Schwarzenbergplatz, Schauspielhaus and mumok – Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien.
“Crossover comes to mind when looking at the [8:tension] programme 2023. However, this pretty term comes from the 1940s, when everything was still neatly divided up for the sake of better marketing. Life, art and pop, of course, never cared much about that, and today we have completely different problems anyway. The digital platforms, for example, and how they are radically changing our bodies. Even the last position of man’s sovereignty, the separation from nature, stands up to neither the planet nor the arts. We live in a simultaneity of new mixtures and brutal separations that is difficult to understand. And yet the artists prove that Anything goes no longer applies as it did with Indiana Jones. Above all, sex is to be rediscovered. And that is what we’ll do, among other things!”
