As part of the [8:tension] series, ImPulsTanz has been offering the opportunity to get to know a new generation of choreographers from all over the world and their work since 2001. Renowned artists such as Akram Khan, Ann Liv Young, Olivier Dubois, Doris Uhlich, Ligia Lewis, Dana Michel, Florentina Holzinger, Lenio Kaklea or Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira showed their early works within [8:tension]. Since 2023, the EU project Life Long Burning – Futures Lost and Found has also been producing an annual interview podcast featuring the [8:tension] artists, which can be found here.
In 2025, the series will showcase eleven productions, curated by Breanna O’Mara and Chris Haring. Works by choreographers from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, the UK, Ireland, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, as well as from Canada and Brazil will be shown at the Odeon, Schauspielhaus, WUK, Nest and mumok Hofstallung.
INTIMATE REALNESS - Our body, which so often challenges, stimulates, protects, hurts, delights and constantly slips away from us: the most valuable means of expression that artists can bring into play to confront the present. In this year's [8:tension] series, young choreographers find diverse languages for what moves (them through) the world. Eleven very personal works trace how social upheavals, social interactions and new forms of communication inscribe themselves into the memories of our bodies. We are looking forward to an exciting programme!
