Kenji Takagi (DE)

BIOGRAPHY

Kenji Takagi was a member of the Pina Bausch Company from 2001 until 2008. In the same year he received the German Theatre Award ‘Der Faust’ in the category ‘Best Performance in Dance’. Since then Kenji is working as a freelance dancer, teacher and choreographer. He has taught in various places such as ImPulsTanz Vienna, Folkwang University Essen, Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris, École de danse contemporaine de Montréal or Movement Research, New York. He continues to co-direct the restaging of Pina Bausch’s Le Sacre du printemps at various places such as Paris Opera, the English National Ballet, Opera Ballett Vlaanderen or in Senegal with dancers from Africa. Recently Kenji's special interest as a performer and author lies in improvisation and in working within interdisciplinary contexts such as with his site-specific projects Raumwandlungen and Ortsgespräche or the site specific performance In Another Place, he created together with the dancer Cristiana Morganti and the Cellist Emily Wittbrodt for the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. Kenji is member of the inclusive Pour-Ensemble in Wuppertal, Germany.
