Tamara Alegre works with dance and choreography. Born in Gran Canaria, she/they studied European Business and Psychology and worked as an underground music curator, dj and tour manager until 2016. Her/their research revolves around sensual embodiments, fictions on sexuality/sexual organs and liminal physical states as choreographic tools. Structurally, she/they aim for change in the European field of dance, which is still very white in Europe today – a cause that is only possible in close alliance and thanks to the contributions of her/their collaborators and friends. In 2018, she/they obtained an MA in choreography at DOCH, Stockholm and premiered FIEBRE, co-signed with Lydia Östberg Diakité, Marie Ursin, Nunu Flashdem and Célia Lutangu. The work has been presented in several venues in Europe. Tamara’s dance practice is influenced by a growing passion for Dancehall, attempting to understand how to position herself/themselves as a white person having access to black culture. Lately, she/they have collaborated with Soraya Lutangu/Bonaventure and the Kingdom Choir from Kampala as mouvement researcher and as choreographic assistance for Sabrina Röthlisberger on her performance Le Sang. She/they have danced for La Ribot and Mårten Spångberg and, more recently, for Nikima Jagudajev, Carlos María Romero and PRICE. She/they are a resident artist at the Arsenic, Lausanne, for the next three years where she/they are working together with Elie Autin, Margarida Alfeirão, Lydia Östberg Diakité et al. on NOS FUIMOS, which will premiere in April 2022. The combination of working as a dancer, making work and being involved in collaborativ practices is essential for her/them.
