Country Line Dance is an US-American folk or social dance form. The beauty of line dance is that you don’t need a partner to be part of the group.
We will learn a dozen or more popular Country line dances, from beginner to Intermediate level choreographies, so you can learn the basic moves like lock step, heel dig and vine.
Learning pre-set choreographies also gives us a sense of how line dances are constructed, from individual steps, tags, restarts, multiple wall facings and the use of repetition as a choreographic frame. When we are comfortable, we will experiment with deconstructing the line dance to see what it produces in other formations as a way of expanding the barrier or line, in both time and space.
The grand finale of this workshop is making a dance together. I’m going to give super fun creative tasks as choreographic prompts that will help us as a group, create our own original country line dance to Steve Miller Band’s, Space Cowboy!
All levels Welcome. Cowboy hat and boots advised! Always bring comfortable sneakers!
