"Awareness gives us the freedom to make choices" – Moshe Feldenkrais
What happens to a Feldenkrais sequence, when we translate it into an exterior rhythm, into a melody, in a pulse of poetry or in the freedom of stillness? Or reversed – how can we perceive a dance sequence in the light of Feldenkrais? Which mechanism does an intelligent body use to remain in an organic movement and simultaneously adapt it into an exterior rhythm? How does a dance sequence change, when awareness is completely focused on the corporeality? What kind of connection is to be found between tension, strength and a functioning movement? What happens in the body – in the tonus of our muscles and on the level of the skeleton? Which of the tensions are we aware of, which are necessary and which are unwanted or avoidable? And how can we improve our movements in order to apply our energies and thus gain stamina and expression?
In the frame of theis workshop we will explore these questions.
The Feldenkrais method is a movement-oriented educational approach to the body with the goal of pain-free movements and holistic well-being. At the centre of this workshop is the awareness of our own movement patterns we unconsciously apply in our everyday lives.
Cautious movement sequences – guided by the Feldenkrais teacher – will provide for more awareness and allow painless and new movements.
A space will be opened for the use of the Feldenkrais method for exploring dance, movement and improvisation and to discover the various possibilities of the body, to enhance health and functionality despite the demands of art and dance.
From Feldenkrais to Dance evolves around the interplay of Feldenkrais and dance, based on our experiences as dancers and Feldenkrais teachers and learners alike – a space to experiment with speed, expression and physical organisation.
