Rock n Roll Ballet Let's rock out and fly! Rock n Roll Ballet is for those that think ballet is no fun, for those that secretly think ballet is a lot of fun, and for those that don't know a changement from a soubresaut! This class is intended as a time to enjoy the physicality and freedom found in ballet without worrying about an illusion of perfection that does not reflect our needs. As contemporary dancers we will practice ballet like a martial artist practices her/his form, in order to find freedom in the form. Everything we know, whatever our background, is available to us as we work through and around the system, dancing our ballet together. Fuelled by Electroclash, New Wave and Punkrock favourites, Rock and Roll Ballet asks each of us to be agents in the dancing and creation of ballet. Using the ethics of Punk and Riot grrrl: let's go for broke and dance a new ballet! We will pay extra attention to questions of gaze – what and how we see as we dance – in an attempt to become more receptive to each other and to the possibility of the moment. We will begin simply. Emphasis is on ease of motion, joy, sharpness, jumps, and turns. Let's rock out and fly!
