The amusing figure with a beard and blonde wig in a clothes bag among the audience is only the beginning. Soon an inflatable penis floats onto the stage, and this is followed by the actual nothingness (néant). Born from vapour in this solo, Canadian artist Dave St. Pierre, in his inner discontent and outer emptiness, unearths a surprising wealth of situations ranging from absurd to downright magical, x-ray-like images, artistic animated films, whirring through to heavy sounds and neurotic movements. A swansong to a messed-up world. Stirring – and never dispiriting.
