LEMONISM x JAPONISM & MINIMALISM

The body is wild – a time bomb that could go off at any moment. Everybody knows that, and yet the eruptions generated by this human body fascinate over and over again. Akemi Takeya, the Viennese dancer and choreographer originally from Japan, delves deep into this feral state. Following the success of her performance Lemonism x Actionism at mumok in 2015, she now presents a new version at Leopold Museum called Lemonism x Japonism & Minimalism & Symbolism & Actionism. The flesh of fruit and humans as well as disorganisation and ecstasy meet 20th-century art in this ritual: an ambitious examination of four historical “isms” in art in conjunction with Takeya’s cyclic arrangement of lemons: lemon no. 71 is called “Black Bonsai”, no. 58 is “Happy Monkey” and no. 46 “Metaphor Toaster”.
