Little Stories About S.O.S.

An emergency call comes in. Austrian artist Akemi Takeya from Japan sends out an S.O.S. Which means: Survival Of Solo. But it has 32 other meanings as well. Such as Stagnation Of System, Scan Our Shape, Suspension Of Sex, State Of Security or Styles Of Spectacle, for example. At the ImPulsTanz performance festival Takeya for the first time presents a solo version of 32 scenes that are tied to these formulas, which will also be examined in their group versions at the workshop festival. Each of the ironic and humorous scenes succeeding each other like a medley is coupled with a short graphic animation film which is projected onto the stage before the respective live act. Thereby Takeya creates an impressive “performance exhibition”, developed from her “Performance Recipe Book”. The artist has been living and working in Vienna for 23 years now. Her extensive and original oeuvre is inspired by the permanent irritations of her existence on the threshold between the Japanese and European cultures.
