To this day, no one really knows what information and what knowledge a body stores over the course of a lifetime. So how is one to turn this body – all of it, not just the brain – into an “archive”? Last summer, Viennese choreographer Anne Juren, who is originally from Grenoble, explored the tongue, language and sexual organs in her Private Anatomy Lessons series at ImPulsTanz. The world premiere of a piece titled 41, in which she examined the relationship of the body and its representation, followed before Christmas. Now Juren goes a step further, tackling the concept of relationship as such in an experiment: as her “poetics of relation” (an expression coined by Caribbean-French philosopher Édouard Glissant) turn into movement, the artist realises: “My body does not have the same ideas as me.”
