Jungle Book reimagined

© Ambra Vernuccio

“This is not a piece for children”, British star choreographer Akram Khan says. But his latest work, developed from the material of Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book, is not exclusively for adults, either. It speaks to all of us. The destruction of nature was already the subject of Outwitting the Devil, Khan’s contribution at last year’s festival. In Jungle Book reimagined, Kipling’s Mowgli takes on the role of a refugee trapped in a world destroyed by the effects of climate change. Virtuoso dance coupled with poetic video animation demonstrate why humans and their environment cannot be separated from each other.
