Annina Machaz (CH)

BIOGRAPHY

Annina Machaz was born and raised in Zurich. After completing her Matura at the Gymnasium Unterstrass, she completed a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Acting and Scenic Arts Practice at the Bern University of the Arts. During her training she received the Migros Kulturprozent sponsorship award and the Best Actors Award for the role of Ophelia at the International ACT Festival Bilbao. For her own play about the icons Amy Winehouse and Marilyn Monroe, she was awarded the CH Young Actors Prize Premio. Together with Mira Kandathil she founded the performance duo Follow us. With her further works Ask the Oracle and Nora oder ein Altenheim, she is invited to various festivals. Annina Machaz creates her own stage designs, papier-mâché figures and absurd texts for her productions. She has worked and toured as a performer for various renowned artists, such as Ivo Dimchev (for the piece FEST as Girl from the audience) or as Captain Hook in Ann Liv Young's Peter Pan. Together with Florentina Holzinger, Vincent Riebeek, Nils Amadeus Lange and Manuel Schweiwiller she realised the online series Body & Freedom. In Florentina Holzinger's show Apollon, Annina Machaz embodied the character of Calamity Jane and in the play TANZ the act of the witch. For her latest piece A Divine Comedy at the Volksbühne Berlin, Annina developed the act of Dante, among others. Last winter she co-directed the children's fairy tale Gretel and Hänsel at Theater Neumarkt and played the part of the evil gallery owner. In addition to her work on stage, Annina Machaz has also worked on various film projects. And acted as a mentor at the Bern University of the Arts.
