BIOGRAPHY

Jule Flierl (she/her) is a choreographer who explores the interconnection of voice and dance through the lens of somatic and expanded voice techniques, voice philosophy, contemporary dance, and historical examples of dance-makers who have voiced their movements. She revives and continues the legacy of Valeska Gert, the avant-garde dancer from 1920s Berlin, who first conceptualised the term “ToneDance” — to dance with one's voice. Jule collaborates with, among others, Choreo-Vocalist Irena Z. Tomažin on the live performance U.F.O. - Hommage to Katalin Ladik and the LP U.F.O., as well as with choreographer Antonia Baehr on the live performance and film Die Hörposaune. Recently, she has also spoken at demonstrations, developing speeches, slogans, and gestures for these events. She participated in danceWEB in 2015, performed at ImPulsTanz in 2016, 2018, and 2021, and taught workshops in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
