BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Adriana Almeida Pees, holding dual German and Brazilian citizenship, is the Artistic Director and Dance Curator of the Dance Department at Theater Freiburg since 2017 and was the Artistic Director of the German Dance Platform 2024. She also serves as a jury member for national and international dance-related activities and has been working professionally in the field of dance as teacher, dancer, dance scholar, choreographer, cultural producer, and curator.

Born in Minas Gerais, she trained as a solo dancer at the Escola Municipal de Bailados de São Paulo and the Royal Academy of Dance in São Paulo. She later earned a degree in psychology from the Faculdade Metropolitanas Unidas (FMU) in São Paulo and obtained a doctorate in the technical-poetic foundations of the performer at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas-SP (UNICAMP) at the Institute of Arts, Department of Dance. In 2018, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UNICAMP.

Between 2008 and 2020, she worked as a guest lecturer at various universities, dance centres, and festivals across Europe and South America. As a Body-Mind Centering® (BMC) teacher, practitioner, and Infant Developmental Movement Educator (IDME), she has been leading the official BMC training programme in Brazil since 2009 and in Uruguay since 2015.

Additionally, she is a master trainer in Gyrotonic®, Gyrokinesis®, Ladder® 1 & 2, and Jumping Sliding Board®, as well as a Structural Bodyworker certified in Anatomy Trains by Thomas Meyer. She is also trained in Brain Gym 1-2 and is a qualified craniosacral therapist.
