Circus meets dance and performance. These two disciplines are not only structurally similar but also deeply explore virtuosity and the body’s vast expressive potential. This workshop invites performers, dancers, circus artists, and anyone interested to investigate the overlaps and tensions between circus and dance – through performance, choreography and political discourse. The collective research will focus on themes such as virtuosity and performativ tension, technique and trick(s).
Blending physical exploration with theoretical dialogue, this workshop builds on the Circus Dance Lab, first launched in 2024 by Tanzquartier Wien and ON THE EDGE – festival for experimental circus arts. Verena and Arne will share scores developed in this context and present their own artistic practices at the intersection of handstand acrobatics and dance as well as object manipulation and dance/performance.
Through hands-on exercises, guided tasks, theoretical discussions, and collaborative research, participants will gain deeper insight into transdisciplinary practice. The goal is to foster mutual inspiration and the ongoing evolution of both circus arts and dance.
