PROGRAMME
SERVICE
Participants will be introduced to House Dance as a language through which the goal is to be able to express oneself as articulate and authentic as possible. The classes will thus balance between learning footwork drills, combinations, short routines, foundational movement, and the practice of freestyle where the participants apply their own creativity and exchange with each other.
Within drills and freestyle the participants will practice to apply the movements while contextualizing them with:
• Travelling (across space)
• Levels (floorwork & leaps)
• Tempo changes
• Rhythm exploration
• Directions
As House Dance is culturally practiced in a cypher the orientation towards the “viewers” is 360 degrees, thus participants will be asked to apply structure to the newly learned steps that come into play with a circular space.
House Dance is originally a Black American dance style that sprung from HipHop, Disco, Hustle, Breaking, Tap-dance, African dance, Capoeira and more. These styles were fused into its own technical language on the sounds of House music and Club culture. In respect of this, the classes will include awareness building about Black oppression and liberation, anti-racism and generally encourage participants to engage with the genre in a responsible fashion.
The participants must expect to go through a process of limitation, when getting acquainted with the foundation (steps, technique, groove), but hopefully during the course, be able to pass the limitations of the mind and enjoy the play of freestyle.
The class format is adapted to the different levels of the participants in the beginner and advanced classes, and adjusted along the way to best benefit the participants‘ needs and wishes.
Please wear shoes for class (running shoes recommended) and preferably long pants.
