Dancehall is a vibrant and energetic genre of music and dance that originated in Jamaica in the late 1970s. Racquel is introducing various forms of dancehall – from Old School to New School female styles, the nuances of the genre are explored, and the movements and improvisations are rehearsed in individual, partner and group work.
Every class is divided in sections:
• warm up: full-body stretching, core activation, pelvis isolation and rotation
• skill development: Dancehall technique development, the learning of steps from Old School to New School Dancehall
• application and cool down: stretching and relaxation, hydration and closing reflection
Racquel’s beginner course focuses on foundational steps and techniques, allowing students to build confidence and a solid understanding of the genre.
In the advanced course, the emphasis shifts to intense choreography, blending both old school and new school Dancehall styles. Students refine dynamic routines that combine traditional Dancehall techniques with contemporary movements, taking their skills to the next level.
