Contact Improvisation emerged from the investigative nature of postmodern improvisations and has now evolved over 53 years. This workshop explores the coexistence of technical and compositional qualities while focusing on additional compositional layers and experimenting with the principles of space, time, and various movement qualities. In the course of the week participants will continuously perform for each other and witness from a place of curiosity and exploration.
Participants will work on:
• Establishing ground rules and principles of Contact Improvisation (CI)
• Engaging in self-referencing improvisations
• Listening and leading through kinesthetic empathy
• Training our landing gears and reflexes
• Three dimensionality for traveling and supporting
• Lifting and being lifted on different levels
• Creating detailed orientation
• Paying attention to larger arc
• Recognizing and extending limits
• awareness of time, space, body and force
• Compositional elements such as gesture, repetition, theme and variation
