PROGRAMME
How does breath move us – and what moves the breath? In this workshop, participants will explore the mechanics of breathing through a rich combination of theory and physical practice. By drawing from pranayama, kundalini yoga, apnea diving, Taoist techniques, and other somatic techniques, they will delve into how breath fuels movement, presence, and expression.
Participants will investigate the role of oxygen and carbon dioxide in shaping physical and emotional states. How does our CO₂ tolerance drive endurance? What happens in the body during hyperventilation? How does breath influence the nervous system?
Together, the group will develop a deeper understanding of the anatomy of breath – especially the diaphragm, the silent powerhouse at the centre of the torso. They will explore how posture, gravity, and breath pathways impact energy, stress, and connection to self and space. Through guided exercises they will tune into the four stages of breathing: inspiration, processing, expression and reset.
Breath will be approached as a creative and grounding force—enhancing focus for the stage, cultivating confidence, and supporting a performer’s rootedness in the present moment. Participants will leave with practical tools to regulate breath for greater emotional awareness, stamina, and expressive freedom.
This workshop is for dancers, actors, and performers interested in expanding their awareness of breath as both a physiological foundation and a performative resource.
