Vogue Fem – a category that originated in the House ballroom scene by Butch Queens (cisgender men), imitating Fem Queens (trans women) – is a highly stylised form of dance created by Black and Latinx LGBTQIA+ communities in Harlem, New York. Emerging in the late 1980s, it evolved from the Harlem Ballroom scene of the 1960s as a dance of gender liberation. In this course, gender expression is explored as performance. Participants journey through the 5 elements of Vogue Fem, celebrating divine feminine strength, sensuality, and wisdom to the beats of ballroom music. Bring it to the runway, darling!
