PROGRAMME
Based on a research project with choreographer Karl Jay Lewin and a recent piece for 24 dancers at SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance), this workshop explores how seemingly unpromising material – derived from a visual score – can be transformed through music composition techniques.
Participants take material from a cut-up version of the 1927 film Metropolis, shape it into a complex rhythmic pattern, add vocal sounds, and teach it to a partner. This process continues until the group has a long “melody”, which they dance in unison, possibly adding music.
