Sonja’s practice revolves around the concept of the objecthood, for some time already: around the body, dance, performance – which represent an anchor for feminist, queer, sensorial politics. Emancipating the figure of a dancer, Sonja questioned this subject-object chiasm of her performing body. From object to materiality, embodiment, touch, synesthesia, sensuousness, receptivity and submission (oscillating with assertion) as vehicles for performance.
Lately Sonja has been working with drag and plants as well as objects that are smaller than singularity. The workshop will be a space of inquiry of those bodies, materialities and performativities.
Observing, studying and embodying – as a critical, fictive, queering gesture – of plants, organs, senses and sensations, eroticism, role-playing. Plants as drag.
Participants will be working with the moving and performing in the range: sensorial, sensuous, formal (literal) and too literal, doing karaoke and contemporary dance in drag. Observing nature, knowing one can’t observe nature and think one will really see it, will be another part of this workshop, while also performing from somewhere inside of this conundrum, creating a durational performance against the theatre as an expectation.
