A category that originated in the Viennese ballroom scene, Vogue to Everything explores Voguing against the backdrop of non-traditional Ballroom music. By listening to characteristics and parallels between the sounds, we establish an acute understanding for the movement and the intentions underlying the dance. Plenvm Ninja places particular emphasis on giving participants a comprehensive understanding of Voguing – through the elements of catwalk, duckwalk, hands performance, floor performance, spins and dips – so that they can express their personal story.
Vogue to Everything touches on the fascinating world of voguing and, as an open level workshop, invites both experienced and novice dancers on a journey into themselves and their own musical expression.
As a dance with roots in the Black and LatinX ballrooms of New York's LGBTQ+ community, voguing has a long history as an underground culture and, more recently, in mainstream pop. Plenvm puts an emphasis not only on teaching steps and movements, but also on developing an understanding of the background and meanings of this dance style and developing the content of the gestures towards personal expression. Participants will learn different voguing styles and categories from the balls and will be guided in choreographies on how to improve their posture, movements and expression to capture the essence of voguing. Plenvm focuses on the connection between music and movement, as rhythm plays a crucial role in voguing. Participants are encouraged to be inspired by the music and develop their own interpretations and variations of the choreographies.
