Dance has an immediate relation to the subject. So dance is often understood as the expression of a person’s inner being. But what if this narrative is reversed. Dance has an immediate relation to objects or things, and when dancing, what is expressed is the dance and not the dancer’s soul. To dance does not mean to express oneself but to be moved by a kind alien. Exactly, to dance is to be in companionship with an alien with an extra-terrestrial. Call me.
In this workshop the group explores forms of dancing, addressing anonymity, materialism as well as forms of care and intimacy aligned with the thinking of e.g. Donna Haraway and Karen Barad.
Celestial Release is an approach to dance developed by Mårten Spångberg in his more recent work such as "Natten" and "Gerhard Richter", emphasising dance’s formal and abstract qualities next to reclaiming composition and dance direct, non-semiotic properties.
