Vollmond. Ein Stück von Pina Bausch

A man approaches a beauty wearing dark sunglasses and a long white dress. The two find each other interesting, he offers himself as an armchair. An intimate song by Tom Waits starts to play. The dancer sits down on the piece of man-furniture, takes a sip from her wine glass and rejoices: “That’s awesome!” In 2006, once-in-a-century choreographer Pina Bausch opened this moving and visually powerful group piece with a great deal of subtle humour: love is a game of seduction and resistance, with poses and traps, and even the odd ghost appearing under the full moon. In the background there is a large, smoothed lump of rock, perhaps a relic from the Ice Age. Before long, it starts to rain. Some key scenes from Vollmond have become famous because they feature prominently in Wim Wenders’ 3D film Pina: dancers abandon themselves to the ecstasy of love in the form of wild water play, run after their desires in the wetness, splash on the floor, spend themselves to exhaustion. That’s how crazy life is!
