Loneliness is when the rice cooker becomes the only “person” to talk to in life. In South Korea, this state of being is called golibmuwon – helpless isolation. After an economic crisis 20 years ago, South Korean society has been and still is under extreme pressure to perform. The young populace react to this with social withdrawal, fixation on externals and suicide. Performer-musician Jaha Koo is part of this generation. He hacked a set of rice cookers with voice function and has entered into an ironic dialogue with the devices, pondering about life becoming devoid of all humaneness.
