Fireworks, firemen, raving and rioting: BURN! is controlled chaos. Esben Weile Kjær, who doesn’t think of himself as a choreographer or dancer but a visual artist, appropriates the brute-force strategies of the entertainment industry, uncovering the mechanisms that are at work beneath the mirrored surface. This pop and club culture-inspired “social dance” – to use the artist’s words – taps into discourses around authenticity, technology and attention, and – of course! – is being streamed live on social media.
