Astrit Ismaili, once queer shooting star of the Kosovar visual arts scene and now based in Amsterdam, has teamed up for the pop operetta MISS to sound by Vincent Arp with a “First Flower” (Ivan Cheng), “Cicciolina” (Magdalena Mitterhofer) and themselves as “Miss Kosovo”. At the same time serious and entertaining, they address questions about the commodification of nature and power relations in connection with wars and issues of gender identities. It is also about the power of creativity, especially when limited, and as in any good (r)evolutionary musical, it is about soulful exaggeration, sparkling intelligence, sharp costumes and, well, about the whole bakery.
