A now much-loved tradition at ImPulsTanz are the ImPulsTanz-on-Decks evenings, where festival protagonists take charge of the music themselves: performers, teachers and staff pass the (headphone) jack from hand to hand and play their favourite tunes. It’s as unpredictable as it is technically imperfect – and all the more charming for it. One moment the artistic director of the workshop programme is playing after a US voguing icon, the next a Dutch performance artist is on before the ImPulsTanz head of marketing. Anything goes – and the enthusiastic crowd wouldn’t have it any other way.
