Transforming image into movement
Transforming image into movement is a research on different sources used for movement development and composition. We will be utilising some concrete sources such as photographies, paintings, Persian miniatures, construction maps and the like. During the movement development and the composition process the body will be provoked to step into a dialogue with those sources. Confronted with this dialogue the body will have to find new ways of reaction, expression and using its knowledge. The aim is to transform this concrete dialogue into movement.
Hooman Sharfi
Born and raised in Iran, now a Norwegian Citizen. Came to Norway all on his own in 1989 at the age of 15. His experience in dance started with HipHop and Street Jazz. Later, at the age of 21, he had technical training in Classical Ballet and Modern Dance. In 1997 he was accepted to the 3-year course in choreography at the National College of Ballet and Dance in Oslo, from which he graduated in Spring 2000. He has always had interest in the “cross-work” of dance and theatre, and after graduating he has worked with dramatic as well as visual art. In 2000 he established Impure Company. The statement “art equals politics” where social awareness and commitment defines the word politics, marks the outset for Impure Company and signifies what art is and should be.
In 1998 he has worked with Liat Dror & Nir Ben Gal Company in Tel Aviv. In 1999 he was assisting choreographer in "Blekkhusets natt", directed by Kjetil Skøien, at Black Box Theatre, Oslo.
Among the projects he participated in or organised are "Art as arena for solving of conflicts", an educational project organised by The College of Art in Oslo with participants from visual art, theatre and dance from Kosovo, Serbia and Norway (1999/2000) and in 2000/2201 he worked with Zero Visibility Corp. in Oslo.
His piece "As if your death was your longest sneeze" ever premiered in 2002 and was produced with Impure Company in co-production with BIT-Teatergarasjen Bergen, Monty Antwerp and springdance/works, Utrecht. His duo with Kristine N. Slettevold "Then such silence since the cries were last heard" was created in 2001 (Video Anne Lise Stenseth) in co-production with BIT-Teatergarasjen Bergen and Monty Antwerp. His solo Suddenly, anyway, why all this? While I.... (2002) was commissioned by BIT-Teatergarasjen for Oktoberdans 2000.
