Sons of Sissy

The fiddle, accordion, double-bass and whip combine to create a lively, rousing atmosphere. The four fetching lads take music, dance oddities and lots of humour with them to the hazardous close-to-nature areas of rural culture. In a good mood, yet without ever running the risk of harmlessness, they show the audience what they’re made of: as a skittish folk music quartet or as a playfully experimental ritual dance combo. In the process, they break with traditional Austrian roles of masculinity and the kitschy pseudo idyll of Austrian customs without mercy. The piece has toured across Europe with great success.
Now a new dimension is added: choreographer Simon Mayer presents his work with audio description for visually impaired audience members devised by Valerie Castan, the only specialist in this field in Europe. The EU project The Humane Body – Ways of Seeing Dance was initiated by ImPulsTanz, Vienna, Centre National de la Danse, Paris, The Place, London and Kaaitheater, Brussels. Local support is also provided by the Vienna Chamber of Labour.

18:30 TOUCH-TOUR
Part of the version for visually impaired is a TOUCH-TOUR, starting at 18:30, to which ImPulsTanz kindly invites visually impaired and fully sighted people alike. It allows you get to know the atmosphere, the stage, props, instruments and the performers and thus experience an additional dimension of the performance. Simon Mayer and the ensemble, the sons of Sissy, will be happy to meet the audience in a sensual way, beyond the visual experience.
