Deep Dish

Zooming in on every detail, a camera moves through the depths of an artful arrangement of fruit and vegetables. In extreme close-up the projection screen displays an exotic, eerie world of togetherness of fennel, pineapple and Chinese cabbage. Four people are sitting around the table bearing the lush arrangement, enjoying themselves in an increasingly eccentric manner. Until they indulge in the decadence of lascivious gluttony: around, on and under the table. One of the characters whispers into the camera: “There’s something I need to tell you – but I can’t.” Because the new piece “Deep Dish” from the “Perfect Garden” series by Austrian choreographer Chris Haring and his group liquid loft is a journey to the abysses of hidden passions and secret desires. Real decay lurks beneath this overflowing imagination of lust. In a prolonged showdown ambivalent beauty arises from dancing worms, alluring music and uninhibited bodies which, finally, mindlessly crush what they have created.
