If healing is a choice then why not make this choice while being in the theatre?” Considering that it’s radical Bulgarian performer Ivo Dimchev of all people who poses such a question it’s to be expected that the answer won’t involve camomile tea or gentle encouragement. His new piece, “I CURE”, is the latest first performance for Dimchev to present in Vienna at ImPulsTanz. An icon of queerness in contemporary European choreography and performance art, he gave us the persona Lili Handel. Now he says: “Why should we waste another hour to become ‘more cultural’ when we could use the time to become ‘more healthy’?” So he offers the vigour of “I CURE” as a universal remedy to his audience. But beware! “The artistic value of ‘I CURE’ is questionable...”, the artist claims, while promising a comprehensive “therapeutic effect” instead.
