After Igor Stravinsky’s and Vaclav Nijinsky’s controversial introduction of the rite of spring to the world of dance, i.e. after 1913, many other choreographers have devoted themselves to this material, including such famous artists as Mary Wigman, Maurice Béjart and Pina Bausch – and currently Christine Gaigg in this year’s festival, for example. Now New York choreographer Trajal Harrell shifts the rite of spring to summer with a group of research participants. Harrell will also open the 2013 ImPulsTanz Festival and make 1960ies Harlem dancehall shows collide with the avant-garde of that time. A flamboyant and sizzling event!
