Tricks, distraction and deception everywhere. That’s the subject of this fast-paced piece filled to the brim with tension, sweat and lifeblood, in which four dancers, two actors and one live photographer put on a fight to the dramatic end. Performer Terry Gillick plays Joseph Beuys sitting in a cage with a pack of coyotes. And then stage diva Birgit Walter turns into a perturbed Medea who murders her sons in the photocopying machine. That machine is a killer. Danny Willems’ camera, on the other hand, is the eye of the beholders and their deceptive memory at the same time. Willems takes snapshots on stage of a drama flaring up about life as a raid whose booty knows no owner. The photocopier and the paparazzo project their images live in the commotion of a procedure that is arduous, as is to be expected from Wim Vandekeybus. Jibing at the media that distort reality, but even more at the rip-off mentality that has gained ground everywhere these days.
