"Empty Holes"
In his solo “empty holes – the life and love and death of John and Doris Dreem” from 1983, Mark Tompkins tells a story of impossible love. This work contains all artistic motifs he had developed until then. To him, it is “the accumulation, the synthesis, the climax of a lifelong love story and of ten years of work”, the artist writes. A work dealing with passion, life and death but also with identity, gender issues and the mirroring of the self in the other.
