It isn’t long ago that queer people had to (and, in many places, still have to) expose themselves to possible violence from the police and fellow citizens, simply to get what everybody wants: affection, understanding, perhaps something similar to love. One meets at night, in public parks or restrooms, not knowing: who’s going to await me? After last year’s variety show-like duet with Lau Lukkarila, Lapse and the Scarlet Sun, Luca Bonamore returns to ImPulsTanz, dedicating a group choreography to this intersection of the public and the private: cruising. For all of us to see and yet in secret, five Silent Lovers sneak toward each other, finding shelter from the “loop of political oppression” in their companions’ gazes, gestures and bodies.
