His Twenty Looks or Paris is Burning at The Judson Church series put Trajal Harrell on the international map. Now he has been gripped by a fascination with Japanese butoh. He indulges in his passion together with dancers Thibault Lac and Ondrej Vidlar in In the Mood for Frankie. Inspired by director Wong Kar Wai and singer Sade, among others, Harrell explores the world of butoh icon Tatsumi Hijikata and constructs a magical garden for muses as a catwalk between history and imagination.
