This is much more than a re-staged hoochie coochie show. Nevertheless, New York choreographer Trajal Harrell takes the erotic-exotic entertainment format, which caused many a scandal in the Victorian United States from the 1870s, as a starting point for his colourful kaleidoscope of gender shifting, fashion catwalk, voguing dance and backstage performance. Bursting with openness and passion, clever masquerade and sexy belly dancing but at the same time tackling the abysses of cultural oppression and social discrimination, Caen Amour is a theatrical, dance and art performance all rolled into one.
