PROGRAMME
In Portuguese, the term “arrebentação” describes the specific area at the shore where the wave breaks. In their eponymous group performance, Brazilian choreographer Catol Teixeira explores this site of a present moment between tension and tranquillity, expands it until it becomes a stage, and invites four other performers to linger there a little longer and investigate it as a group. Opposing impulses, wishes and desires don’t stand in the way of this quest – they are the way; Teixeira thinks of every single body as “a place of passage, of relationship and negotiation between organic-political-cultural forces.” Moving, “leaderless” tableaux come into being between group and isolation, confession and secret, grip and plunge.
