PROGRAMME
Being loved and wanting to love – the business of longing fuels art, entertainment and philosophy: Roland Barthes’s A Lover’s Discourse has been a longseller for almost 50 years. And Beyond The Overflow, in which Elisabeth Bakambamba Tambwe explores the book together with her performers and guests, also returns to the festival as a certified classic. Tambwe brushes Barthes “against the grain”: while his Lover’s Discourse arrives as a handy encyclopedia structured from A to Z, Tambwe’s version oozes from every crack and crevice – “just like at an art fair or auction, you can find anything you want”. Between exhibition, opera, discussion, theatre and salon, Beyond The Overflow unleashes all those forces that were previously hidden behind the scenes.
